Campus

Well, it has taken me a while, but here are pictures of the main buildings on campus.
Die Maedschenheim

Der Sportplatz

Die Mensa und Die Turnhall
Here you see die Mensa from across the Bogi-pond. In this building there is the Computerraum, die Verwaltung, und die Mensa. Attached to the end, where you can see it just at the left end of the new building is die Turnhall, or gym. Here we have indoor sports as well as assemblies.

Die Neue Kapelle

Die Pickardteum
This is the music building. It was named after a particularly talented family who played music for the school here and also work her.

Die Alte Kapelle
The top floor is used as a chapel, while the bottom floor is divided into two classrooms for the Sprachschule.

Der WandernTag!

Ok, so I promised a post with pictures, and here it is!

Yesterday was the school's annual WandernTag, where the entire school heads south a couple of hours and spends the day hiking in the Alps. We left at 7:30, and were in the mountains by 9:45. We were hiking in a National Park that happened to double as a military exercise zone.
This set of signs warns people about such normal hiking dangers as unexploded ordnance, barbed wire, and military patrols. It also states that anyone not authorized to be in the zone during an exercise will be removed from the area, jailed, and prosecuted.

The hiking was...difficult to say the least. But the scenery was first class!

This is part of the trail. It was steeper than it looks! The Austrian flag is the trail marker.

The picture above is a hiker's shelter. This is also where most of us stopped for the day. We ate lunch and lazed around in the sun in this beautiful meadow.

View of the mountain from the valley we hiked up. The meadow is on the far side of that peak.
Coming back down was much easier than going up! It was a fantastic day with new and old friends!

Eisbaeren!!

Today was the second day that it hasn't rained here since I arrived! In honor of the occasion I allowed some of my new friends to persuade to go for a run followed by a swim in the river, followed by a run back to the school. The run wasn't long, only one kilometer. The swim was the interesting part. The water was beautifully clear, deep, and cooooold!!! It felt like a snowmelt river! But it was fun, and it made the air feel quite warm.

Hopefully in the next few days I will get some pictures uploaded and more updates posted. Bis spaeter!

Wir sind hier!!

Well, after a long trip I made it safely to Seminar Schloss Bogenhofen.  It was an interesting trip. I flew from Burlington, VT to Munich via Philadelphia and Frankfurt, Germany. Frankfurt is a huuuuge airport, and finding my way around was a challenge, since all the signs were in German! Nevertheless, I made my way through customs and finally found the gate where the flight to Munich left from. At the gate Jenna and I met a very nice couple from Los Angeles who were also traveling to Munich.

Once we got to Munich, we met Ronnie, the driver from Bogenhofen, who took us to the school. It surprised me how similar the landscape was to Vermont. It was also quite the experience traveling on European roads. They are so narrow!! and our driver enjoyed passing the many slow trucks and tractors we encountered. The first time he did this it was quite surprising and slightly nerve-wracking, but after the next few times it became normal. Then came a stretch of autobahn! This was a fun experience! Most people were driving about as fast as Americans drive on the interstate, but Ronnie enjoyed pressing the van's speed, and at one point we were traveling about 185 kilometers per hour, which sounds a lot faster than it really is, but would still get you a hefty fine in most states.
