Well, after a long trip I made it safely to Seminar Schloss Bogenhofen. It was an interesting trip. I flew from Burlington, VT to Munich via Philadelphia and Frankfurt, Germany. Frankfurt is a huuuuge airport, and finding my way around was a challenge, since all the signs were in German! Nevertheless, I made my way through customs and finally found the gate where the flight to Munich left from. At the gate Jenna and I met a very nice couple from Los Angeles who were also traveling to Munich.
Once we got to Munich, we met Ronnie, the driver from Bogenhofen, who took us to the school. It surprised me how similar the landscape was to Vermont. It was also quite the experience traveling on European roads. They are so narrow!! and our driver enjoyed passing the many slow trucks and tractors we encountered. The first time he did this it was quite surprising and slightly nerve-wracking, but after the next few times it became normal. Then came a stretch of autobahn! This was a fun experience! Most people were driving about as fast as Americans drive on the interstate, but Ronnie enjoyed pressing the van's speed, and at one point we were traveling about 185 kilometers per hour, which sounds a lot faster than it really is, but would still get you a hefty fine in most states.
I can't wait for pictures! It sounds like your year is starting off well :) Were you guys the only students being picked up or were there others?
ReplyDeleteThere was one other student from Michigan that was picked up at the same time. And the year is starting off well! just hard to not fall back on using english, because a lot of people here speak english quite well. Pictures will be coming soon, hopefully later this week :)
ReplyDeleteIf the landscape is similar to Vermont, that would explain why the von Trapp's settled in Vermont after moving to America from Austria.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I want to go 115 in a van!
