Yesterday was the school's annual WandernTag, where the entire school heads south a couple of hours and spends the day hiking in the Alps. We left at 7:30, and were in the mountains by 9:45. We were hiking in a National Park that happened to double as a military exercise zone.
This set of signs warns people about such normal hiking dangers as unexploded ordnance, barbed wire, and military patrols. It also states that anyone not authorized to be in the zone during an exercise will be removed from the area, jailed, and prosecuted.
The hiking was...difficult to say the least. But the scenery was first class!
This is part of the trail. It was steeper than it looks! The Austrian flag is the trail marker.
The picture above is a hiker's shelter. This is also where most of us stopped for the day. We ate lunch and lazed around in the sun in this beautiful meadow.
View of the mountain from the valley we hiked up. The meadow is on the far side of that peak.
Coming back down was much easier than going up! It was a fantastic day with new and old friends!
Oh it's so beautiful!
